π Hot & Queer Mycology π
mushrooms popping-up every year in a horny calendar bringing fresh intimacies to celebrate queer joy of living together on this planet!
The EMC is an art and science-communication publication that lures us towards new ways of intimacies through the myco-taxonomy illustrations of international artists.
The calendar acknowledges life as an inherently queer flow in which we share more with mushrooms than we've been experiencing so far. We see the mushroom fruit bodies as ephemeral artworks of sexuality that liberate reproductive information: while they are popping-up to forward the desire of creating something new they enchante their habitats into exravaganza exhibition sites. The calendar is a place of sensory cross-fertilization of vibrating fungal diversity and our possible ways of relating - to ourselves and other bodies - with care and curiosity.
EMC 2023 features the works of Róbert Békefi, Irene Cantero, EnikΕ Katalin Eged, Hódi Csilla, Marie LukáΔová, marotunkun, Poór Dorottya, Indre Simkute, Attila Stark, and Lina Walde.
The calendar pages follow the classic (pre-anthropocenic) fruiting times of the starring fungi - not the Gregorian calendar's official months - but they represent 12 fungi paired with the unique visual artworks.
EMC is curated by Csilla Hódi and Dorottya Poór, Budapest based artists, educators, organizers. The project is part of the Fair-Y Circles mushroom learning initiative.
The calendars are printed in two-color with riso technique by Soma Sebesvári, in his micropublishing workshop, called BPzines.
